The Power Of Gratitude

This simple practice will change your life — On a sunny September afternoon, I found myself bathing in bliss. My heart was like the Grinch on Christmas morning, expanded beyond all prior boundaries. The intense stress I normally felt had drained away. For the first time in my life, I felt completely free. When Life Gives You Lemons Make Some Gratitude-Aide I had just been fired…

About Me — David Cook

I’m more than just taking up space — They say if you want to be great at anything you can’t have a balanced life. You can’t be a great writer and lover and sailor and web developer and father and soccer coach and chef and competitive athlete and…something has to give. A lot of things have to give. …

Building A Strong Foundation

Make your life fit your lifestyle! — You are a unique person with a unique life. Sure, you may share common characteristics with other people, like careers, hobbies, and interests. But beyond that, when you factor in your beliefs, values, lifestyle, habits, likes, and dislikes, you are as unique as a snowflake. …

The Philosopher As An Artisan Of Life And Death

What will you do with the time you have left? — “Son, the only hope you have to survive this war is to accept the fact that you’re already dead. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you’ll be able to function as a soldier.” This is one of my favorite lines from the epic mini-series “Band of Brothers.” It came…

On the tipping point of our democracy

What will become of it? — The last six years have been a fever dream of political nightmares. Antagonist alert: You may not like what I have to say and I don’t care. What has happened to humanity when there are people in positions of power who want nothing more than to light a match and…

Do The Hardest Thing First

The Secret To Self Mastery — Instant gratification is all around us. Our lives have become gamified. We have become the modern-day dogs in Pavlov’s greatest experiment. Click a button, win a prize. And we wonder why we accomplish so little and feel so unfulfilled. As a father, I have taught my children the same lesson…

Movement Is My Superpower

Movement Builds Resilience — Movement is the single best self-care practice on the planet. You may think exercise and movement are the same. They are not. True, exercise is movement, but movement is not exercise. Everyone can do movement. Not everyone can do exercise. And yes, I agree they are simply semantic differences. But for the person challenged to exercise, it’s a big difference. Our hyper-connected world suffers from a hyper-sedentary world. We simply sit too often and for too long. Exercise enthusiasts are not exempt. Working out for an hour in the morning does not give them permission to sit the rest of the day.

How would you like to be remembered?

How to live a legacy worthy life — Happy Memorial Day! As we remember our loved ones and our fallen soldiers, shouldn’t we also think about our own mortality? Some day we will all be the remembered ones in future Memorial Day celebrations. But how will we be remembered? Is it too soon to think about our own death? Do you…
